Teradek Cube tutorial the right field for every value

This Teradek Cube tutorial shows you where your four Primcast values go on any Cube, from the older models you open through TeraCentral to the 600 and 700 series with their Video Stream Output page.

You type a server address, a stream name, a username and a password, press Apply, and your camera is on air. No computer has to stay switched on beside it.

01

Which Cube do you have?

Teradek changed the Cube's web interface over the years, so the menus depend on the model number printed on the label. The values you type are the same on both.

Newer Cubes, such as the 655 and 755

You open the Cube's web page straight from a browser, with no app to install first.

Steps for the older Cubes

Teradek stopped selling the 600 and 700 series on 31 January 2023, and full support from Teradek ended on 31 December 2025 (Teradek's end-of-life notice). A Cube you already own still streams to us exactly as this page describes. If you are buying new, Teradek's current encoders are the Prism range, and our hardware encoder page helps you choose one.

02

Get your four values from the Primcast panel

Sign in, open your video account and find the Live streaming card. Under Encoder settings you will see everything the Cube asks for.

Server
Looks like rtmp://HOST:1935/APP. It goes into the Cube's Server URL field exactly as shown.
Stream name
Usually livestream. It has a field of its own on the Cube, so keep it out of the Server URL.
Username
Your publishing login, for the Cube's authentication fields.
Password
Hidden until you click Show. New password gives you a fresh one, and the change applies to the Cube's next connection.

Some accounts also list a Nearest server address. If yours does, put that one in Server URL instead. The Cube then connects to our closest location (New York, Miami, San Francisco, Amsterdam or Bucharest) and your picture travels on to the channel over our own network. Stream name, username and password do not change.

Teradek Cube RTMP setup on the 600 and 700 series

Open the Cube's web page

  1. Connect your camera's HDMI or SDI output to the Cube and power it on.
  2. Plug the Cube into your router with an Ethernet cable. The front panel shows its IP address on the Ethernet status screen, which you reach by pressing the Menu joystick down.
  3. Type that address into a browser on the same network. With no cable, join the Cube's own Wi-Fi network, named Teranet- plus its serial number, and open http://172.16.1.1.

Fill in the stream and go live

  1. Open Video Stream Output in the menu on the left.
  2. Set the stream mode to Internet Streaming, then choose Manual RTMP rather than one of the named platforms.
  3. Paste the Server address into the server URL field and the stream name into the stream field. Enter your username and password in the authentication fields: our server turns away a Cube that leaves them empty.
  4. Pick your resolution and bitrate (section 05 has the numbers), click Apply, then Broadcast. The Stream joystick on the front panel does the same.
04

Older Cubes: set up RTMP through TeraCentral

Reach the Stream Settings page

  1. Open TeraCentral, select your Cube and click Configure.
  2. Log in to the Cube. A unit that was never changed accepts admin as both username and password. Set your own password once you are in.
  3. From the top menu choose Video Setup, then Stream Settings.

Enter the RTMP details

Picture settings your viewers will thank you for

On the newer Cubes these sit in the Broadcast Quality part of Video Stream Output; on the older ones, under Encoder Settings. Choose the row your internet line can carry with room to spare: the total should stay under two thirds of the upload speed a speed test gives you.

Suggested Teradek Cube resolution, video bitrate and audio bitrate
ResolutionVideo bitrateAudio bitrateUpload to have
1080p304,500 kbps128 kbps7 Mbps
720p302,500 kbps128 kbps4 Mbps
480p301,200 kbps96 kbps2 Mbps

A paid live video plan accepts up to 5 Mbps from your Cube, and the 1080p row stays just under that. The channels play in HD, not 4K.

Keyframes every 2 seconds

Your viewers' players load the stream in short pieces that start on keyframes. If your Cube shows a keyframe or I-frame interval, set it to 2 seconds, or to twice the frame rate when it counts in frames (60 at 30 fps). A long interval looks like buffering to the people watching.

H.264 for the video codec

The 700 series can also encode HEVC. Leave it on H.264 when you send RTMP: classic RTMP was built for it, and every phone, TV and browser plays it. Want to try HEVC? Ask us in chat first.

06

Sending SRT from a Cube 600 or 700

On a long or unsteady connection, SRT keeps the picture going where RTMP stalls. It comes with the Pro and Platinum plans of our video CDN, which give your channel its own SRT port and passphrase. Find them on the Live streaming card, under SRT ingest.

Mode
SRT, then Caller. Your Cube calls our server.
Host, Port
The host and port from the SRT address in your panel, srt://HOST:PORT. Use the nearest server address if your panel lists one.
Source Port
Leave it at 0.
Stream ID
Leave it empty. The port already belongs to your channel.
Encryption
On, with the passphrase from your panel and a key size of 128 bits.
Latency
1000 ms, the value our side uses.

Click Apply (the Cube may restart), then start the stream. A stream sent over SRT plays under its own name, so point your player at the link shown under Plays at in the same SRT ingest section for as long as you use SRT. Older Cubes have no SRT mode and stay on RTMP.

Teradek Cube questions

How do I set up a Teradek Cube for RTMP streaming?

Open the Cube's web page, choose manual RTMP as the stream mode, and enter a server URL, a stream name, a username and a password. On a 600 or 700 series Cube that happens under Video Stream Output. On an older Cube you go through TeraCentral to Video Setup and Stream Settings. Click Apply, then Broadcast.

Where do I find the server URL and stream name for my Primcast channel?

On the Live streaming card of your video account, under Encoder settings. It lists the server, the stream name (usually livestream), your username and your password, which appears when you click Show.

What is the default Teradek Cube login?

On older Cubes reached through TeraCentral, a unit nobody has changed takes admin as the username and admin as the password. Newer Cubes use the password set on the device. If you no longer know it, Teradek's 600 series guide says to hold the reset button for more than 10 seconds for a full factory reset, which also clears the stream setup.

Why won't my Teradek Cube connect to the server?

Check four things in this order. The stream name must sit in its own field, not on the end of the server URL. The application name in the URL must be the one from your panel. The username and password must be filled in. Last, the network the Cube is on must let traffic out on port 1935. Still stuck? Our chat can see whether anything from your Cube reached your channel.

Do I need RTMPS on the Teradek Cube?

No. Your channel takes the stream over plain rtmp:// on port 1935, which every Cube can send, with your username and password guarding it. For a sturdier link on a 600 or 700 series Cube, use SRT with its passphrase.

Can a Teradek Cube stream SRT to Primcast?

Yes, the 600 and 700 series can, on the Pro and Platinum video CDN plans. Set the Cube to SRT in caller mode with the host, port and passphrase from your panel, and leave the stream ID empty. Your panel also shows the playback link for the SRT stream, which differs from the RTMP one.

Is the Teradek Cube discontinued?

Yes. Teradek took its last orders for the Cube 600 and 700 series on 31 January 2023 and ended full support on 31 December 2025. The Cubes keep working, and Teradek points new buyers to its Prism encoders.

What bitrate should I set on my Teradek Cube?

Start with 2,500 kbps at 720p or 4,500 kbps at 1080p, plus 128 kbps of audio, and keep a 2-second keyframe interval. Your upload speed should be at least one and a half times that total.

Your Cube is ready. Where should it stream?

Open a live video channel, type its four values into your Cube and watch your own picture come back. If a field refuses to cooperate, our chat answers in seconds and can look at your channel while you test, and a person from the team joins whenever you ask.
